Dispelling some common myths about who God is…
Myth: God and Jesus are separate.
Truth: God and Christ are one in the same. The same God that created the heavens and the universe is the same Jesus who walked this Earth like you and me! There is not one without the other. Jesus said of himself, "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”
Myth: God is a mystical, distant being.
Truth: God is the union of three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). He has a threefold personality in the one Divine Being. (2 Corinthians 13:14) 14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Myth: Jesus is the same as all of the other prophets and teachers who walked the Earth.
Truth: Jesus is the Lord of Lords. He is God wrapped in flesh. There is no greater power than Jesus Christ. Christ is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. (Phil. 2:9-11) Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Myth: It is okay for me to believe in God and live my life the way I choose to live it.
Truth: God has called all of us to live a lifestyle that is pleasing and acceptable to Him. He has set the guidelines in His word for our good and protection. God is holy. (Leviticus 19:2) 2 “Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: ‘Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy.
Myth: God gets tired of me burdening Him with my problems.
Truth: God is great enough to shoulder all of you; the good, the bad and the ugly. God does not need or rely on anyone else, we need God. God is self-sufficient and self-existent. (Colossians 1:16) 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him
Myth: What I do in secret, is my business.
Truth: Nothing can be hidden from God. God is omnipresent (present everywhere). (Psalm 139:7-12) 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
Myth: People have a reason to worry, because some things that happen are outside of even God’s control.
Truth: God is sovereign. Nothing on Earth happens without his say-so. He is completely sovereign over all things. (Isaiah 46:10) I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.
